Europe requires companies to be transparent about AI - Datatrust Associates in De Tijd

"More than half of companies still aren't really working on the AI Act." That's the estimate from our CTO Christoph Balduck in De Tijd. And the ones who are? Many wrongly believe the whole law has been postponed, so they've quietly stopped paying attention.

It hasn't. The heavy high-risk obligations were pushed to 2027 and 2028, true, but the transparency rules that took effect on 2 August stayed exactly where they were. So if you're waiting, you're waiting on the wrong thing and it's not a cheap mistake to make, with breaches running up to €15 million or 3% of global turnover.

In Belgium, we're watching closely for confirmation of the overarching supervisor. It won't be one single regulator, a number of existing, industry-specific regulators will also act as AI supervisors, in collaboration with BIPT. Once BIPT's role is formally confirmed, they can officially get going, and the picture clears for everyone. Christoph does expect an administrative bottleneck ahead: with high-risk systems due to be certified by 2 December 2027, everyone will want to certify at once. His read is blunt: the ones betting they can wait and see are exactly the ones who should be moving now.
